This is a black OEM recoil that fits a variety of Makita models. This part is frequently used and exposed to the outer elements, so can wear or break. The recoil mechanism allows the operator to pull the cord to start the engine. The cord is also a part that will likely wear with time and will need to be replaced. Inspect the cord as well. Locate the screws that attach the starter cover to the engine. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws in a counterclockwise motion to remove.
