The purpose of a piston ring is to create an air tight seal inside the cylinder. This piston ring is an authentic manufacturer approved replacement part that is specially designed for use with Echo backpack blowers. A worn or broken piston ring will allow combustion gases to escape the seal and enter the crankcase, this would cause low compression and a loss of power. Replacing the piston ring should resolve this issue. This part is made from durable metal and is sold individually.
Disassembled entire blower. Removed the piston and ring. Cleaned all carbon from the cylinder ports, piston and piston ring groove. Honed the cylinder for a nice cross hatch. I\'ve been working on small engines for over 50 years so I\'ve made all the dumb mistakes that you can imagine. Just pay attention when disassembling or take pictures to refer back to later when assembling. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the job.
Tear the unit down until you can remove the cylinder. Piston was seized in bore but 2 cycle oil freed it up to remove it. No damage to bore so just installed new piston and ring, after assembly the blower started on the 2nd pull...
