2. Removed the steering wheel center cover, then removed the 3/4\" nut and lock washer.

... Read morend a bit of tapping with a ball peen hammer.
4. Removed the rubber boot
5. Removed broken lift lever pieces
6. \"Re-threaded\" the new lever through the proper holes, then applied some pressure to force the lever back through the plastic dashboard opening.
7. Replaced the spring holding the lever in place by looping a string under the spring end that attaches to the lift lever, then stretching the spring with the string and relaxing the spring end over the lever (much easier than using a needle nose pliers!).
8. Replaced a other parts in reverse order.
In the end, use of a little additional force to push the lever back through the dashboard opening and using the string to replace the spring saved a couple of hours of disassembly/reassembly work.
