Removed the bolts holding the manifold to the engine with the hex wrenches and the mounting bolt from the frame to remove the old muffler. The new muffler bolted right on using the old bolts and nuts. I applied loc-tite to the muffler bolts that went from the manifold into the engine.

Removed the muffler by removing the two hex screws and bolt holding the muffler to the frame. Cleaned the area around the gasket. Attached the muffler and gasket with the two hex screws and reinstalled the bolt holding the muffler to the frame. Very easy project.

Removed two bolts from exhaust manifold
removed bolt holding the support bracket for the muffler
put the new muffler on to the bolt that goes through the support bracket
reattached the muffler to the exhaust manifold and tightened
tighten the support bracket bolt
cut the lawn

1. Removed heat shield mounted to muffler
2. Removed nut securing muffler to frame
3. Removed two nuts securing muffler to engine block

Presoaked nuts securing muffler to engine block with PB Blaster. Muffler does not come with new gasket, must order separately. Replacement muffler of very good quality.

Muffler pipe broken away from muffler body

1, Spray down the two muffler bolts \"Allen Head\" with penetrating oil. Note; Let it soak for at least one hour. ON A COOL ENGINE
2. Remove air cleaner. Note: This is to gain access to the muffler mounting bracket bolt.
3. Remove nut from muffler bracket.
4. Carefully remove Allen Head bolts from muffler pipe attached t o exhaust manifold. there is a gasket between the muffler pipe and exhaust manifold inspect and replace if needed. Note; The gasket does not come with the new muffler.
5. Before installing new muffler, clean the threads of the muffler bolts with a \"toothbrush\" wire brush.
6. Line up new muffler bracket onto threaded stud and install nut. Do not tighten yet.
7. Line up muffler pipe of the new muffler with exhaust manifold and thread allen head bolts into manifold.Note; be sure you have the gasket in place.and tighten both bolts evenly.
8 Go back now and tighten muffler bracket bolt.
9, Reattach air cleaner, Note, this would be a good time to replace air cleaner filter!
10, Start mower and check for anything unusual. smoke, vibration, etc.
11. If all is good, run mower cut grass for about one hour, let it cool down and RECHECK the tightness of the muffler bolts.
