You have to remove the battery from under the seat and loosen 2 nuts. 4 wires must also be removed. The issue with this repair is the poor design by manufacturer in hiding this solenoid. All of the loosening and fastening must be done by touch. I also had to loosen a portion of the frame as the part would not come out or go in due to wire harness issues and clearance issues.

Removed battery and everything covering solenoid. Took wiring off solenoid and removed solenoid. Installed new one placing wires back like original. Put battery in, hooked it up, tested if new one worked. Worked great. Unhooked battery and reassembled what was removed. Had a few breaks while working on it, took longer than expected

Due to Troy Bilt design, the starter solenoid is located in a very difficult place to access. Under the seat below the battery compartment and to the side. No easy access. Must take body cowling loose to reach. Must access through the battery compartment hole. Many screws are hidden when removing body cowling. Terrible design, It took les s than 5 minutes to replace solenoid, but about 3 hours to gain access and re-assemble. This one would have been easier to take to shop than try to repair at home. Very poor design by Troy Bilt, Solinoid should have been mounted next to starter or under the hood.

1. Removed battery to get at the solenoid which is stuffed in under the left rear fender. Time: About 2 minutes.

2. Removed the two screws holding the solenoid bracket and wrestled the solenoid out from under the fender. This and getting it back in was the hardest part of the repair, because there is literally no room to wo rk. Removed wires (4) from old solenoid.
Reassembled wires to new part. Time: 17 minutes

3. Spent 1.25 hours trying to get mounting bracket back over the fender. (bracket goes outside, solenoid inside.)

4. Reinstalled battery, hit the key and away she went.

1. Disconnected & Removed battery to make room to get to solenoid. ...about 10 mins
2 Removed engine cover & starter ..about 20 mins
3 Disconnected & Removed solenoid, this is difficult due to location that is under the seat mount 1+ hour, lots of metric socket adapters an d extensions needed. You must do it by \"feel\" since everything is a blind removal. Very bad design for solenoid location.
4 reassembled with new parts and tightened all down, 45 mins
I suggest you take pics of all solenoid connections before disconnecting.
