Jack up the front of the mower and place jack stands underneath it and block the rear tires. You can remove the wheels if you want to, but I didn\'t feel it being necessary. ... Read morees with a mallet, then tap the new on in with same. And install the washers and tighten up the nuts. Remove the mower from the jack stands and git mowen.
I removed the steering wheel and the coller to expose the steering shaft then took off one the nut and bolt that holds the steering shaft assembly to the main steering rod then took off the old steering shaft and put the new one one and replaced it with the new one and put it all together in reverse order.

Tie rod end broke free from wheel. The tractor would not steer
Remove retaining nuts. One on each end of damage tie rod. Lift broken tie rod free, many need some persuasion. Install new tie rod be putting ends into hole opened up by removal of the old one. Install nuts , tighten and recycle old parts.
1. used penetrating oil on nuts
2. had to use 1/2\" socket drive to get leverage to break the nut loose.
3. removed nuts on both sides with hammar
4. installed new tie rod from ereplacement
5. tightened the nuts.
