This metal shoulder bolt, which is also called a shoulder screw or a stripper bolt, is a fastener that has a shoulder between the threaded and unthreaded sections of the bolt. This shoulder is a smooth section which supports and guides rotating parts. The threaded section of the bolt fastens parts of a machine together. This bolt has a diameter of 5/6 inches, a thread pitch of 18 threads per inch, and a TT thread type. You can tell when a shoulder bolt is broken when the rotating parts that it is supporting becomes wobbly or misaligned. Your machine may even make unusual noises. You will need to replace a damaged shoulder bolt as soon as possible to prevent damage to your equipment. Left unrepaired, the rotating parts it is holding may become completely disconnected or collide with each other. To remove a shoulder bolt, you may need to use a wrench or socket to loosen the nut on the threaded end of it. Using a second wrench or pliers to hold the bolt in place while you loosen the nut can be helpful. Use the pliers to grip onto the shoulder of the bolt, then twist and pull the bolt out of your machine.
