This is a Genuine Toro replacement part used on a variety of Walk Behind/Push Mowers. This is a Metal Half Moon Key and it is sold individually. The key helps to secure drive wheels to the Transmission Axle.
1. Removed right side drive wheel and exposed damaged pinion gear.
2. Key and spring were damaged also.
3. Cleaned key way and spring retaining hole and installed new parts.
4. Installed new pinion gear with thrust washers and spring clips.
5. Installed existing wheel, started mower
When we investigated the reason for the self-propel not working, we found numerous parts missing and the gear off the shaft. Replaced parts and reassembled and thankfully it is working like a charm. Just followed the parts diagram. And take your time.

I\'m not sure exactly what happened. My wife called me and said that the tire exploded. The plastic hub had twisted up like a straw.
I set the lawn mower up on blocks. Installed the spring, set the shafts key over the spring, slid the gear over top. Put the washer in place, used needle nose pliers to lock in the snap ring, put the tire on and used a 1/2\" socket to tighten up the tire. Very easy.

Wheel Cover Asm broke allowing foreign material into wheel drive gear causing displacement of gear and retaining parts.

Disassembled the other drive wheel (one bolt) to determing which parts were missing from the other broken side and how it should be re-assembled. Once again have two rear drive wheels! Easy fix. Thank you eReplacementParts for providing PayPal payment option and quick delivery.
Removed drive wheels then removed retaining clips from drive axle. Removed drive gear ,key & spring. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of the pinion gear when you reinstall it. if you install it in the wrong direction it won,t drive the wheel when it is put into drive mode. Grease all parts and reinstall in reverse of disassembly

Had to remove wheels,belt cover and blade to replace key springs, new belt and lube rear wheels after cleaning said parts.
I would never do this job as shown in tutorial and feel it\'s necessary to remove both wheels ,blade belt shroud and rear wheel holders and use new washers and bearings to give the job more/longer service.
