In checking the condition of the drive belt I found the pulley at the axle was loose and wobbly and the nut holding the pulley halves together was worn substantially. I removed the belt per manual directions then locked a pair of visegrips on the drive axle so I could remove the nut holding the top pulley half with the appropriate sized socket wrench. Once the nut started to move it came of easily. I installed the new pulley half and the belt. Works great and the mower pulls much faster now.
