This part is made of metal, and is placed in the pinion kit between the drive pinion and the drive disc. You may require pliers when replacing this item. This part is sold individually.

Remove the entire assembly. Removed all old grease and dirt. Replaced all three parts. Reassembled without any lubricants. Works great. Grease and dirt were part of the problem.
