Bolt holding blade and adapter on really tight. Soak with Kroil or other penetrating oil. Use flat wrench on bolt and a lever bar (long screwdriver or steel rod capable of not bending) to work against blade to loosen bolt. When loose bolt can be removed quicker with socket wrench. ... Read moreto use wheel puller if on tight). Slide or drive on new adapter lining up lug or key in spline cut on engine shaft. Place new blade grass side down on adapter making sure the nubs on adapter are in the holes of the blade. Insert and tighten bolt really tight.
Use a heavy duty glove to hold the blade to remove it. Remove the blade screw and washers, then the blade. Remove the cracked adapter, then line up the key in the adapter to the key slot on the engine shaft, then tap it on with a rubber mallet. Install the blade, washers and tighten the blade screw. Done.

Needed a new blade and adapter as old blade was bent after hitting rock.
Removed the blade bolt and washers, then the old blade. Removed the blade adapter.
Tapped the new blade adapter on, then installed the new blade, blade washers and tightened the blade bolt.
Remove the blade bolt and the washers
Remove the blade
Remove the cracked adapter
Line up the key in the adapter to the keyway in the shaft and tap it on with a mallet
Place the new blade and washers on the spindle
Tighten the blade bolt

Old blade adaptor became worn and the blade rattled and the lawn mower would shake.
I\'m getting smarter. Take pictures with your phone. Undo everything. Put in the reverse order using the new part. Tighten and check to make sure else there will be wobble and rattle as before the repair. It\'s so simple I did if for my riding lawnmower as well.

... Read morecement online at the same time and get the thatching type with fans of steel cut into the blades. You\'ll get a wonderful, new, even cut with little thatch.
Another tip: Keep the old parts you take off on nails and hooks so you can know which ones to replace next time.
Old bolt was sheared off and old adapter had to be removed with a gear puller.
The end of the motor crankshaft had to be cleaned up for the new adapter to fit.
After this everything went back together OK.
