This is coil is a genuine Shindaiwa replacement part that is sourced from the original manufacturer to be used with hedge trimmers. The coil is mounted next to the flywheel and is used to produce an electric charge and the magnet on the flywheel passes the coil. The charge is sent to the spark plug to create an electric arc to ignite the fuel within the combustion chamber. This coil is sold individually to replace the trimmer's original equipment. A sign of a failing or bad coil is the engine shutting off unexpectedly or not starting while the motor still has compression.
