This replacement carbon brush is a genuine OEM authorized replacement designed for use with trimmers/edgers. This carbon brush is sold individually. Please note, brush holders and springs are sold separately. Carbon brushes are a commonly replaced part on power tools. Due to friction and normal use brushes will gradually wear down and will require replacement. It is advised to replace both brushes at the same type. You would need a screwdriver to complete this job. • Make sure the unit is unplugged • First remove the screws holding the housing together • One you are able to access the motor you can remove old brushes • Install the new brushes • Re-assemble and test your tool

Lift the switch off its plastic \"pillars,\" remove wires connected to it. Attach wires, as before, to new switch and slip new switch back into place. Screw 2 halves of the plastic body back together.

The trimmer lacked any power at all and at time would quit working altogether.
I simply raised the springs that held the brushes in place, removed the old brushes and installed the new ones. I then released the springs holding the brushes in place.

Speed of blade had slowed considerably, making it difficult to trim anything.
Struggled to find Torx Security drivers at local hardware stores that would work. Finally had to order online.
Once I had correct T15 driver, repair was a breeze. Removed screws holding body together and removed cover. Lifted spring clip holding brush and removed brush with needle nose pliers. Inserted new brush and replaced clip.

With care and patience. spring loaded brushes pop out with pulling out commentator. holding new brushes one at a time slipping commentator shaft to same location of old brushes. observe shape of old brushes groove to locate new brushes in spring holder.
1. Opened the casing.
2. Figured how to remove the worn brushes.
3. Inserted the new brushes.
4. Has trouble with the springs of the brushes as it slipped and uncoiled. Used a clamped tweezers to recoil and reinsert the spring.
5. Put all parts together again.
6. The trimmer works.

Not working - gradual loss of power to cutting blades
I opened up the motor housing by removing the plastic shield (two screws), the plastic handle, which snaps into place (two screws) and then by separating the two sides of the housing (six screws). ... Read more the removal of the screws. I\'ve had my trimmer apart many times to clean it up inside, so i was familiar with the placement of the trigger and its locking mechanism. Do yourself a favor and make note of the positioning of these two plastic pieces and their springs. Take note of where the wiring is positioned around the motor and through the notches in the plastic. Next, I removed the motor and its wiring from the housing. I set the motor on its base (the only flat surface) and located two long screws that hold the stator and rotor together. Their heads should be visible from the top of the motor. I had previously pulled the motor out and determined that the brushes were very worn. They were only about 1/4 inch in length. New ones are closer to 3/4 inch. I noticed that the commutator was very black. I removed the screws and eased the stator off of the rotor. The brushes then fell out of their normal positions. The springs which hold them snug to the commutator seemed to be okay. I then took the finest sandpaper that I had on hand (220 grit) and removed most of the black deposit from the commutator. I believe emery cloth is the recommended material for electrical clean-up. I then began reinserting the rotor into the stator. I positioned the shaft between the tension springs for the brushes and then slid the brushes into their holders.I needed offset needle-nosed pliers to help . The springs pushed the brushes against the shaft, which held the brushes in-place. I then continued to return the stator/rotor to their working positions as I used a thin flat blade screwdriver to push the brushes (one at a time) away from the shaft and then next to the commutator. I thought that this was going to be harder.
