The chuck would not lock, so when I would try to remove a bit on it, the chuck would spin freely.

Remove battery from drill.
Remove all screws from case and set aside separately for ease of remembering where the went.
Separate the front gear assembly from the plastic case of the drill.
Remove gears from the front gear assembly and make sure to remember the order on which they were removed.
Replace the parts th at were broken and carefully reassemble the gears.
May be tough at this point, but just be patient and the gears will go in. Its a bit tough getting them to drop in place, but you just need to align them properly and they will go in.
If you forget the order of the gears, google a schematic for the drill and look at the order of the gears.
Once gear assembly is complete, put together the case and the gear assembly. The motor needs to rest flat in the case or you may struggle to get the casing closed.
Put all screws back in the same place and your done.
