1) remove back and bottom covers using flat and phillips screwdrivers.
2) disconnect wiring and remove cord and on/off switch (all plug-in)
3)lift tension brush holding tension springs and brushes; secure springs with toothpicks
4)slide brush guides out, slide brush holding assembly out - clean assembly and case interior
... Read more 5)remove armature, clean commutator surface., clean and lubricate drive gear
re-assemble in reverse order
Removed all the covers,opened up the transmission case removed what was left of the connecting rod and the compression spring. Cleaned all the broken parts out along with all the grease. installed new parts and brushes. Reassemble and test. It worked very good. it\'s a messy job but worth it. It restored a 700.00 drill !
