This is a genuine part which is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer for use with Weber grills. The thermocouple is made of metal and attaches to the control valve. If this item becomes broken it will need to be replaced and may require a wrench during the installation. This thermocouple with electrode and wire is available as an individual replacement part. Check the owner's manual and the diagrams for your model to ensure the correct repair procedure.
