Iignition failure, side castings powder coating blistering, control knobs were pealing

Total Repair Time:

The ignition replacement is simple and only requires unscrewing the old one and installing the new one and reattaching the wires. The side castings were more of a problem. The pot metal push-on nuts that hold it together were rusted out and crumbled during removal. Also, one of the hinge screws was frozen in place due to oxidation (I l ive on the coast). So I needed to go to the hardware store and find a suitable replacement. I did, but I am surprised that the side castings did not come with replacement nuts. The hinge screw broke off while still frozen in its attaching hinge nut. I had to drill it out and find an alternative screw. I was successful and all works well, now. Another surprise to me is that the replacement knobs do not come with the chrome rings.

No ignition to burner

Louis from West springfield, Massachusetts

Very easy ignition replacement. Third one for this grille. I think leaving the ignition in the grill throughout the winter in the northeast kills it. I will remove the ignition and batteries next winter to see if that helps.
Thread the top cap off of the ignitor, then remove the nut securing it to the grill. Remove the then ignition and place the wires on the new ignition in the same place of the old one. Then install the new ignition in the reverse order.

igniter not working - irregular flame

David from Granby, Massachusetts

0 of 1 people found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:
30 - 60 mins
Tools:
Nutdriver
Parts Used:
S86003, N240-0016, N010-0671
1) remove grill grates
2) remove sear plates
3) using 1/4\" socket or nut driver remove 2 screws at rear of burner midway between right and left burners
4) lift up old burner at rear and slide out
5) reverse process to reinstall
If installing a new igniter:
1) remove old igniter gripping the outside and turning counter clockwise, remove hex nut and slide out from under the grill. pull wires from old to install on new, reverse process to install.
If installing new main burner electrode:
1) with igniter out bend back electrode shield and remove 1/4 inch screw, unplug wire from igniter, remove old electrode and reverse process to reinstall.
***I recommend doing all together and it is wise to inspect the drip pan prior to ordering!! It slides out from under the grill with the doors open and is very likely to be rusted. Get all your parts at once and do the whole job in under an hour! Like a new grill!!
