1. Back out screw on bail side that has spring behind the plate
2. Flip up bail spring plate and remove old damaged spring
3. Use needle nose pliers to line up new spring
4. Attach bail spring plate exactly how it came off
5. Flip bail and wind reel works like new

the dog spring broke, so there was nothing to keep the spool from spinning backward. While I was at it I changed the bail spring .
