Emitter grille rusted out

1. Remove main grill.
2. Remove emitter grill.
3. Install new emitter grilles. Note that even though the replacement emitter grill is stainless (like the newer Charbroil Infrared models), it has not been redesigned so that the holes will be on top of the emitter as in newer grills. No problem, the emitter can be flipped. Th e end channel pieces are open on the bottom (installed the original way) and if you flip them, the open area can be covered with a strip of aluminum duct tape (the kind used in A/C ducts, not the fabric duct tape). It will keep grease, etc out.
If you watch the Charbroil Infrared YouTube video that explains how infrared works you will see the \"holes up\" emitter in action and it\'s ability to prevent flare ups. Duh, \"holes down\" funnels grease to the burner!
My experience was amazing. Even cooking, no flareup, no hole clogging and easy cleanup.
You will think you have a new model grill.
4. The grill manual shows the need to overlap the flat side edges. The replacement edges are curved and will nest fine in the flipped mode and actually lock together.
5. Replace main grills. If you line main grill ribs over holes, they will get hotter. If you line up so the holes are visible, you will get serious grill marks.

My grill was just worn out. Everything was 8 years old. Looked at buying a new grill, but for a third of the price I made mine like new.

Pliers
I removed the old grates, infrared emitters, flame tamers, main burners, and thermometers. I used a putty knife and a shop-vac to clean everything up. The only tool I needed was a pair of pliers to pull the cotter keys off the burner tubes. When my new parts arrived, I had everything put back and ready to go in less than ten minutes. S o happy I found this website. Being able to put my model number in and pick what I knew would be exact fit parts.

The grates had rusted/burned through, and didn\'t cook well anymore.

Total Repair Time:

Parts Used:

I removed the top cast iron coated grill plates.
Removed old grill grates.
I put in the new grates, but with the ribs with the holes up instead of down.
This made the temperature seem lower on the temperature gages, but was actually much hotter at the grill surface. The grill marks are much more defined and the burgers/k alby grills much faster. I did drill holes at the back of the grate channels to allow the grease to drip through. If you don\'t drill the holes the grease will fill up and smoke a lot.
Finally replaced the cast iron top coated grill plates.
You can install with the ribs with holes down, but it will take longer to grill.
