Bolts that secure engine to the deck and hold the drive belt guide bracket in place, had worked loose. This allowed the bracket to drop into the path of the blade thus ruining the bracket.

3. Also replaced missing air cleaner and cover.
4. Quite an easy fix given the schematics to show what parts were missing.

This was a basic complete tear down, ring/valve job on a 6.5 Tecumseh flat-head engine. I also cleaned up all the bolts and threads. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. As this was my first complete tear down of a Tecumseh, I got surprised by a couple of ways it differed from a Briggs. For example, the piston arm grips the crank journal in the opposite direction. That is, the bolt heads look to the left, not the right. There was no directional mark or indent on the piston head to tell me which way it goes in. I put it in the wrong way and then had to back up and undo it, but not before I\'d already put the oil pan back on! I just took my time and made sure everything was right before I went on to the next step. (Tried to keep the cursing down, too!) Runs fine now. Thanks.
