Remove the air cleaner assembly. ereplacementparts has a you tube video on this subject. Here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faM2nla4_u4 . Empty the fuel from the tank or use some tube clamp pliers to stop the flow of fuel. Remove the carburetor from the engine. Remember where the spring and throttle where locate d. Then start removing the parts from the carb. and laying them on a clean towel. Once all the parts are off, clean the carb. with carb, cleaner. I did use some fishing line to clean out the small passages. Once it was clean and dry, I started to assemble it. I replaced the needle, cup and bowl o-ring. Then installed the float bowl with the o-ring and bolt. Installed the insulator with the gaskets on both sides of it. I then installed the new union and all of the parts attached to it. I removed the muffler, then the gasket and cleaned the area before I installed the new muffler gasket.
Removed the rocker arm cover and replaced the gasket beneath it. Installed a new fuel filter in the tank. Then before I installed the air cleaner, I exchanged the old packing (gasket) for the new one.
Running great again.

Carburator needed cleaning and also new gaskets

Followed instructions on YouTube video.
The parts which I ordered were real OEM parts which ensured a correct fit e.g. for the gaskets.
I once did order a new carburator (Chinese knock-off) from the Big River \"A\" online but the gaskets did not fit. Had to send it back.
But using OEM parts on the original carburator wa s the better choice.
