Kohler engine on my Lincoln welder had a bent push rod, so I decided to replace all of the push rods and lifters!
With a pair of pliers, I removed the fuel lines from the fuel pump and then with a 10mm socket, I removed one valve cover at a time! Once the valve covers were off, I used the same 10mm socket to remove the rocker arms, so that I could remove the push rods and lifters! Low compression and oil consumption on one cylinder
Removed engine, shrouds, heads,front cover and pistons. Bad valve was only definite problem. Suspect improperly spaced oil ring end gaps for oil use. No idea what damaged valve. Engine only had 325 hrs. 100 psi and 200 psi compression. Waiting for new belts to deliver so I can find out if repair was successful.
Inspected engine found valve cover was cracked and leaking oil.
Removed valve cover found intake push rod was bent and had knocked exhaust push rod out of place cracking valve cover.
Ordered parts to repair engine.
Received parts install new push rod and reinstall the one that was out of place cover new parts with oil. I

Test run engine it is running fine now.

Engine blew oil out exhaust. Found one push rod broke and a lifter out of the bore.
1) Took off left side plastic pod.
2) removed valve cover
3) installed lifter back in the bore
4) installed new push rod
5) Reassembled-engine starts and runs well.
