This is an authentic OEM part. The friction spring is compatible with a variety of small engines. The metal spring helps to secure the friction plate to the ratchet kit in the starter assembly. It is encouraged to refer to the specific manual for repair instructions. The friction spring is sold individually. However, it is also included in the ratchet kit (28421-883-315). You may require a wrench and pliers when replacing this part.
