1: Removed engine from frame
2: Removed valve cover, head, oil pan, camshaft, piston, crankshaft, blade holder, and flywheel.
3: Disassembled and cleaned head.
4: Installed valve seals
5: Reassembled head
6: Honed cylinder
7: Installed rings on piston
8. Installed piston into cylinder, installed crankshaft and camshaft
9. Installed oil pan with new gasket.
10. Installed head with new gasket.
11. Installed blade holder and flywheel.
12. Mounted engine to frame.

I removed the engine from the deck. I disassembled the engine, I replaced the piston rings and the head gasket, resurfaced the cylinder head surfaces and reassembled the engine. No more smoke.
