One of the two starter assembly engagement tangs had become warn as did its mounting socket. As such the tang did not withdraw fully after the motor was pulled to start causing a loud tapping noise. P

2. Lifted off the old starter-recoil assembly to remove it from the mower.
2.a. To disengage the pull rope from the mower handle assembly I had to slightly open up the looped-form guide with a fla ... Read more t-blade screwdriver. Will want to do anyway to place the new rope in place through the guide.
3. While I had the starter assembly off I could see that the top of the motor and fin area needed to be cleaned so I did that with a brush and leaf blower. A minutes-worth of work.
4. Place the new starter assembly in place and replace and tighten the 3 mounting nuts & washers.
5. String the pull rope through the guide and consider squeezing the guide back to original position so that the new rope doesn\'t fall out the \"widened\" opening.
