The retaining ring fits next to the pinion gear and helps to hold it in place. Keep in mind that this part is made of metal and is sold individually. It is a genuine item that is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer for use with Briggs & Stratton engines and Toro lawn tractors. During installation, a socket set and a screwdriver may be required to help replace this part.
