These are the key components of the pull-start recoil mechanism that allows user to start the engine. This assembly includes the durable plastic pulley and the metal recoil spring, please note the other parts like the housing, pull rope and the grip are all sold separately. To replace this assembly you will need a screwdriver set to remove the housing cover.

The spring unwound

Take the cover off then remove the starter assembly. Remove the rope then wind the new spring so it has tension to wind the rope on the pulley. Put the assembly back on.

Remove the top engine cover. Remove the spring assembly. Careful to remember how it comes apart. replace rope. Reassemble! Set spring tension.Close up.

Recoil pull housing broke away from main housing causing damage to to recoil pulley/spring assembly

1.) Disconnected throttle & choke linkages.
2.) Unbolted engine-recoil housing from engine.
3.) Removed starter rope from pull handle.
4.) Unscrewed pawl friction cover.
5.) Removed pulley ring assembly and pawls.
6.) Inserted and coiled new rope on pulley.
7.) Assembled and completed steps in reverse o rder starting with step 5.
