1. Removed carburetor and separated top from bottom
2. Saw very slight wrinkle close to spring on fuel pump
3. Replaced membrane, pump spring and breather grommet. Likely only the membrane was worn.
4. Reinstalled carburetor and engine started right up and ran like new!

Removed the gas tank carburetor and then the carburetor and cleaned all. Replaced the Spring-Pump Diaphragm, Needle-Valve Kit, Diaphragm-Carburetor. Put all back together and reinstalled the gas tank carburetor. Took a little time to get the engine started, then adjust the speed and the engine runs with no more surging.

Found my grandfather\'s old plow under a pile of scrap metal while clearing out my dad\'s barn. The 5 hp implement was on its side in the dirt and was last used 40 years or more.

1. Removed starter rope assembly in order to remove dirt.
2. Removed and flushed fuel tank.
3. Cleaned carb and replaced needle valve and diaphragm and spring.
4. Replace spark plug.
5. Reassembled and started. Runs fine!

1968 Briggs & Stratton emitted black smoke and would not draw fuel below 1/2 tank.

Removed fuel tank / carb assy, then separated carb from tank. Replaced diaphragm, and both fuel tubes. Also diaphragm spring. Engine now starts and runs well. Draws fuel all the way to the bottom of the tank until empty.

Briggs engine would run when primed through carburetor throat but would then quit indicating fuel pump diaphragm was bad.

1) Removed carburetor from engine
2) Removed diaphragm cover plate from carb.
3) cleaned all surfaces and ports.
4) replaced diaphragm spring and diaphragm.
5) attached diaphragm cover.
6) installed new fuel tank and carb gaskets and reattached carburetor to engine.

Pulled carb off motor of chipper
took fuel tank off
cleaned out fuel tank
took carb apart which consisted of 4 screws and the needle and seat and jet
cleaned it out with carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air
put new gaskets in along with jet and needle and seat along with diaphragm and spring. ... Read more />installed it back on motor and engine started on the fourth pull
Is running better now than it has in years
I would recommend purchasing a new air cleaner at same time, Mine fell apart.

Removed the carburetor, gave it a good cleaning, replaced the adjusting needle and jet and all the gaskets and seals. Now it starts and runs like a champ. by the way, I bought this mower back in 1968. It\'s a riding mower with a 5hp Brigs and Stratton engine. They just don\'t make them like they used to.
