It is a genuine item that is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer for use with Briggs and Stratton engines that are commonly installed on Toro lawn and garden equipment. The cap attaches on top of the valve stem and provides a contact place for the rocker arm. Refer to the diagrams for your model to ensure the exact location and application of this part. I did some research on you tube and the18.5 hp Briggs engine is know to blow head gaskets. Mine has 400 hrs on it. I pulled the head off and found a very small tear in the head gasket. If you look on you tube you will find a lot of videos on this. Some are very well done others are a joke. Followed all the video instructions including
... Read moretorque specs. Put a fresh oil change in and I was cutting grass in a couple of hours with no smoke out of the muffler. Word of advice, be very careful when removing the head, take great care to not loose a valve cap when cleaning the old gasket off. They are small and hard to find after you drop one.
Removed valve cover
Loosened valve rocker enough to rotate away
Remove push rod
Replace cap on valve
Put rocker back into place and adjust to motor specs
For my motor valve adjustment was
.003-.005 for intake
.005-.007 for exhaust

Would not crank. Before intake push rod failure hard to start
Remove valve cover installed new valve adguster and set valve lash,and fish broken parts from motor with magnet .then replaced ratchet paws that broke because of valve adjustment
1-Remove Spark Plug, intake and exhaust manifold
2-Remove Valve cover
3-Remove Valves rocker arms
4-Remove both push rods
5-Clean up cover and cylinder head
6-Remove Cylinder Head
7-Clean Cylinder and old gasket (Head and Case)
8- Replace new cylinder head gasket
9- Install and torque the h

9- Install the new push rods, rocker arms and adjust the gap
10-Install the valve cover with liquid gasket
11- Install the intake and exhaust manifold with new gasket if required
12- Clean and install the spark plug
Turn the key and it starts. After warm up, check the and adjust the idle
Done in about 50 minutes
