This part is an OEM from Briggs & Stratton. The push rod guide is compatible with many lawn tractor engines. The metal and plastic item is fitted in the cylinder head assembly, securing the push rods. The push rod guide is sold individually. A socket and wrench set are helpful in making the installation.
Remove valve cover. Remove rocker arms and rocker arm bolt stands. Remove and replace push rod guides. Reinstall rocker arm stands and rocker arms. Install push rod in correct position.(Make sure you put the Aluminum rod in the Intake position and the Steel rod in the Exhaust position) Adjust clearance as required. Reinstall valve cover

Intake push rod broke, because set screw backed off, and push rod guide broke as well.
1. Removed valve cover, removed rocker arms and their studs.
2. Put piston at top dead center, on the stroke where cam was not lifting push rods.
3. Reassembled push rod guides and rocker arms and set intake clearance to .005 thousands and exhaust to .007 thousands.

5.Put spark plug back in.
6. Put new valve cover gasket on and tightened bolts on valve cover.
7. Started motor and checked for leaks and listened for noise from rocker arm assembly, very quiet running and put back to work.
1. Remove last part of the push rod and checked the valve tappet for defects, cleaned old head gasket off and installed the new gasket
2. Set the exhaust and intake valves push rods in place
3. Adjusted the valve clearances to B&S spec\'s
4. Installed new valve gasket after cleaning off the old valve cover gasket

Would not crank. Before intake push rod failure hard to start
Replaced piston rings, replaced push rods and guide, cleaned and lapped valves, adjusted valves, and replaced carburetor. I did not put enough torque on the flywheel bolt and sheared off 2 keys before looking for information online and most information said to torque bolt to 120 ft. lbs. and then go a little further. Did this, problem was
