Blown head gasket on 5 hp walk behind blower

Had to figure out the torque spec on a Briggs 5 hp, horizontal shaft engine but did a little internet searching and found it.

Remove the existing motor head carefully to ensure that the bolts were tracked for reassembly and not lost. Scrapped the existing gasket material from the head and the motor housing. Took a little time to wire wheel carbon from the piston and valves. Put the new gasket on the head and reassembled. Torqued it down to what I believe is the proper spec.

Changed the spark plug and air filter.

Started on the second pull.

Sticking intake valve

8 Reverse procedure to reassemble
(5hp Br iggs vertical cylinder engine)

Removed cylinder head ,removed crankcase cover ,removed piston, honed cylinder to break glaze, installed new rings on piston, reassembled engine after thorough cleaning.

Water got in during storage and rusted the intake valve and port.

1. Removed the flywheel cover.
2. Disconnected carburetor and tank assembly.
3. Removed head.
4, Removed valve tappet cover.
5. Removed spring keeper from intake valve spring and removed valve.
6. Cleaned intake port, Installed and lapped intake valve and set clearance.
7. Installed spring keeper on intake valve and installed tappet cover.
8. Cleaned top of cylinder and head surface.
9, Installed head using new head gasket and torque wrench..
10. Installed carburetor and tank assembly using new breather grommet.
11. Installed flywheel cover.
12. Started engine and I\'m satisfied with well running engine.

Exhaust valve was stuck open.

1. Diagnosed no compression.
2. Removed engine from the tiller to the bench. It makes it much easier.
3. Removed the cylinder head exposing the stuck valve.
4. Worked the valve with penetrating oil until it was free.
5. Reassembled the head with a new gasket uninstalled the engine back on the tiller change the oil and started it.

Pulled cylinder head, removed carbon from head and engine. Removed parts of old head gasket and installed new gasket and cylinder head. Started it and runs fine.
