Removed entire throttle/governor control bracket, along with the governor spring. Installing the new unit was somewhat difficult, due to the limited space available for the tools and my hands. Installing the governor spring after the bracket was installed, is impossible. Found it best to connect the throttle cable to the bracket first; th en the spring to the governor lever; place the bracket close enough to attach spring to the bracket; and then fasten the bracket in place with the 3 screws. This provides a little more room for the hands and tools.
It may also be best to buy a new governor spring when ordering the control bracket.
The main reason the job took me so long, I had to learn by trial and error, the sequence of reinstalling the pieces. Secondly, my old fingers are not what they where when I was younger.
There is very little space to work in between the the seat and the engine. It is 20 years old, and I am pushing 90.

Took out old filter and replaced with new. Throttle control removed screws and unhooked wires and spring. Put back on new one and reattached. New bracket did not have the threaded hole for throttle control lever put on a new one with a nut, lock washer and flat washer. Put jb weld on end of nut so vibration of log splitter would not loose n it.

The old throttle plate was corroded and the plastic piece that the throttle cable hooks to was broken.

I removed the gas tank and the rewind cover, disconnected the wiring from the throttle plate, unhooked and removed the two governor springs and removed 3 bolts on the throttle plate. I replaced both governor springs even though the old ones seemed to be fine. I had a little trouble getting the throttle cable set correctly. The governor do esn\'t let the engine rpm\'s as high as before which, I\'m sure, can be adjusted. The engine is quieter and still cuts fine at the lower rpm, so i have not changed anything yet. The most difficult part of the project is getting everything hooked up in a small space. Be sure to notice where the springs attach or you may have difficulty getting them hooked up correctly. I am 75 years old with some arthritis so the job should be simple for you young people.
