This is an authentic Ridgid replacement part that has been sourced from the original manufacturer to be used with hammer drills. The brushes are used to transfer electricity to the armature by pressing against the commutator bars while rotating. The brushes wear down over time because they are in contact with a moving part and eventually will need to be replaced. These brushes are sold in pairs.
