?This is a genuine OEM replacement part, it is sold individually. This part is used to keep the brush tight against the armature so the tool will work properly. Over time when the brushes wear down and heat is created, the spring may lose its tension and will have to be replaced.

The brush spring, part number 445860-00, measures approximately 0.625 inches long by 0.25 inches wide. Handle of case broke off and with it, broke brush ring holding contact brushes to commutator.

Pull commutator out of end bearing to access brush ring.
Remove brush ring and replace with new.
Install commutator.
Install brushes in brush ring and attach holding springs

The handle broke off because plastic mountings broke. Instead o ... Read more f getting new handle parts, I improvised and used an automotive glue to attach handle parts. Vibration initially broke handle, but gluing is more resistant to breakage.However, will be extremely hard to take apart if needed.
