Tried to remove the chuck from the spindle but the screw would not budge, so I loosened the 4 screws that hold the front housing and pulled it off. the key holding the spindle to the drive gear had sheared so I fished out the broken pieces and inserted a new key, attached the new retaining ring and screwed the front housing back on.
