Disconnected the power supply.
Separated the compressor-motor housing. Removed the broken belt and fragments.
... Read more Disconnected the piston rod. Carefully rolled the new belt onto the pulleys. (the small pulley has a sharp flange that can cut the new belt if forced) Reconnected the piston rod. Reassembled the compressor-motor into the housing.
1. Took case apart on 20 year old compressor that contained the motor, drive belt and piston.
2. Replaced belt which had disintegrated.
3. Closed case.
4. Compressor worked great.

Motor drive belt broke after the crank shaft drive moved off it\'s shaft.
Took the motor housing off the tank, took the housing apart, drove the crankshaft drive back on the shaft, peened the shaft to keep the crank gear in place, removed the connecting arm and hammered it straight. Slid new belt on to motor and crank drive. Reassembled the motor housing and remounted on to tank. PS you will need torque dri
