Unscrewed the old part, screwed in the new part. Valve works fine again. Still had minor leak due to worn group head channel that accepts filter basket, but made a spacer/gasket to fit between group head seal and group head base, and now works flawlessly again.

Note: Without a new valve, there would have been no cure.
