This brush ring is an OEM from DeWALT. Compatible with mostly saw devices, the plastic brush ring has been designed to secure carbon brushes. This component is fitted onto the magnet ring. A screwdriver and an Allen wrench are needed in the removal and repair. This part is sold individually.

Removed the clamshell and all the screws.
Install new Brush ring. Remove brush springs from old brush ring and install on new brush ring. Install new brushes. Reassembly clamshell case.

Take case apart and separate into 4 parts.
Pull commutator out of end bearing to access brush ring.
Remove brush ring and replace with new.
Install commutator.

Toughest problem was that I could not find any replacement parts for the burned out switch - I had to take the switch apart and solder the terminals.
