This is a genuine OEM sourced replacement part designed for use with Poulan chainsaws. The ignition module also known as armature-magneto provides current for the ignition system by producing pulses of high voltage for the spark plugs. It is made out of metal with some rubber components and it is sold individually. Includes a spark plug boot. To complete this repair you would need screwdriver set. Please note replacing this module would differ based on your unit, however the basic steps would be the same. • Remove the housing/covers from the unit • Remove the spark plug • Bind the cylinder • Remove the air filter cover and side cover • Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor • Disconnect the wires • Remove old ignition coil • Install new ignition coil • Install the red wire • Set the gap • Install the black wire • Reassembly and test the unit

When installing the new module, put a .010\" feeler gauge between the ignition module and the magnet on the flywheel. The magnet will hold everything in place so you can tighten the allen screws.
Coil and harness are simple. All my wires were slightly damaged so I changed everything. It wouldn\'t start on ether and now it starts pretty good on fuel if my elbow is up to it. ... Read moreng cover didn\'t stay on well. Spent some time with a tach setting the carb up and it really runs better than it ever did. I bought it as a $70 refurb at Home Depot and probably spent that fixing it after the fuel lines rotted out. It\'s a Poulan P4018WT. Guess you could say it runs better than when it was new. Spark gap is about 0.020. or .5MM (a mm = 0.040) These don\'t have a lot of ignition voltage so keep the gap close. It isn\'t your car. Do yourself a favor and buy the canned pre-mixed fuel. Ethanol will rot the lines out and destroy the carb. If you don\'t put a lot of hours on a saw it isn\'t worth finding the \"real\" gas and mixing it. Since Poulan won\'t give RPM limits I set it for 9k under load. It sounds about right.
Tested for spark found none, ordered new ignition module. Removed cover, installed the new one just as the old one was attached and set gap between the flywheel and ignition module with a standard business card. Unit started right up.

2. Removed the pull rope cover.
3. Disconnected wire from spark plug.
4. Disconnected spade wire(yellow) from the coil.
5. Using Allen wrench, removed the coil.
6. Removed tension clip holding the ground wire, yellow wire and spark plug wire.

9. Spun magneto to check the ap.
