The hand guard protects your hand from the bar and chain and engages the chain brake if the hand guard is pushed forward. The most common reasons for replacing the hand guard is if the chain brake is not engaging, you cannot reset the chain brake (by pulling back the guard), the guard is not engaging the chain brake or the hand guard is cracked, damaged, or improperly aligned. This part is sold individually. Here is a list of tools that are needed to replace the hand guard is a chain adjustment tool (Scrench); or a ratchet/socket/wrench set, flat-blade screwdriver, long-handled screwdriver, Phillip's driver, and torx drivers.
