1) Took the clutch off (left handed thread)
2) Pulled spring out
3) Put new spring in, put clutch in vise to hold stable while clipping spring together
4) Install clutch. careful not to put to much torque on the recoil. Clutch will tighten over time because of rotation

Clutch spring broke on chainsaw, has to be installed under pressure/prying
(1) These are always reverse threaded on crankshaft, remove sparkplug, put piston all the way down, start putting 1/4 inch rope down spark plug hole (use a non fiber-type, non coated rope that won\'t shed fibers, start filling cylinder until it won\'t take any more rope.
(2) hopefully you have a hex nut welded to the center
... Read moreof the clutch, or you have to buy the tool for your exact brand. Use a breaker bar and correct socket, turn clockwise easily until it stops.
(3) Use a wooden mallet and strike the breaker bar lightly until the clutch un-threads, spin it off and screw one side to a 2 foot 2x4, so you can pry the slider apart to remove spring, clean all parts, do not lube anything, clutch will slip.
(4) Put the spring together and put it on one side with the joined section between the two clutch halves (not on either half). Use a small finishing nail between the halves to give space to put spring on, gently pry spring around that half (screwdrivers), do not kink spring, pull nail out so clutch closes around spring.
(5) Have some one help you with these things, unscrew 2x4 jig, use breaker bar counter clockwise until it stops-careful, you can do serious damage if you apply extreme pressure. When tight, remove rope, put everything back together and cut some wood!!
