This is an authentic OEM supplied replacement starter rope that is produced for use with Echo gas powered equipment. It is the part of the recoil starter mechanism which allows user to pull-start the engine. One durable nylon rope is included per order, please note the plastic grip handle is sold separately.
1. Removed outer cover
2. Pulled out drum starter (big mistake)
3. Spring shot out
4. did not know drum started was connected to spring
5. Took a long time to rewind spring by hand
6. Made sure rope was tight
7. Reassembled

... Read more took 4 hours to figure out because I did not know how to rewind the spring and I did not get the rope tight enough.
Removed the starter assembly. 4 screws.
Removed the rope starter wheel from the starter assembly. 1 screw.
Threaded rope through wheel, then through rope guide channel on starter assembly, then through rope handle.
Attach rope starter wheel to the starter assembly.
Cut rope to length that keeps handle tight agains
... Read moret assembly when retracted, leaving a tail on handle to make it easy to further trim after break in.
Installed starter assembly on chain saw.
Started chainsaw numerous times to seat and stretch new rope. Adjusted knot in handle to keep rope tight against assembly now that it has seated and stretched.
Trimmed tail from rope near handle.
Completed.
