For my application I had to get into my attic to replace the ventilation adapter. Getting in the attic is not always necessary to replace the adapter but my fan was attached to the truss in the attic. However, once I had the fan removed I could get to the adapter and the 4\" ducting. I was able to remove the old broken adapter and the new one fit perfectly. I reattached the ducting and did some other modifications that I had planned and was out of the attic in about 30 minutes.
Be sure to use the exact adapter that goes with your model of fan. I am very happy with the repair and things appear to be working well.

The bathroom vent uses this adapter to connect an 4\" exhaust hose to the unit. Our adapter was missing (probably mistakenly discarded over the years). The adapter has a \"check\" valve, or blast gate which closes when the fan is off ... to prevent back flow in from the outside. This gate/valve closes using gravity. When the fan is on , the gate opens, when off the gate drops.

The adapter has pins that fit into notches on the vent\'s case. The only way the adapter would fit was upside-down, which cause the gate to be open when the fan was off. I eventually removed the gate, and reversed it.
