1. Removed vent / heater ceiling cover
2. Removed vent frame to which the motor and vent wheel were attached
3. Removed motor and vent wheel from frame (need to save the two small nuts on the motor posts)
4. Removed vent wheel from motor. This step is unnecessary, but I wanted to make sure I could install the new wh eel to the new motor. Need to pull hard to get it off. Also, no need to save the small black ring securing the wheel to the motor post.
5. Push on new wheel to motor post (post has one flat side 5o match the wheel hole
6. Reattach motor wheel assembly to plate and reinstall entire unit into its housing.

Whole process is easy.

Going in, I hoped that I could replace the motor and not the whole unit (which would have disturbed old drywall and made the project much more challenging). Turns out that I had the model number but it was extinct. However, the kind and patient lady at eReplacement worked with me, found the updated model number and the proper fan motor replacement. It fit perfectly.
Reassembly was a breeze after vacuuming 40+ years of dust out of the assembly. The time listed includes disassembly, cleaning, phone time with eReplacement and reassembly.

Removed old motor and exhaust fan. Saw it was a Broan 658 ventilation fan so ordered the motor and fan that showed it would fit broan 658 fan.
The new motor and fan were larger than our old motor and fan. Took some maneuvering to get the motor to fit in the smaller housing but my husband managed to bend the housing to make the part s fit.
Ventilation fan repaired now and working fine.
