The purpose of a carbon brush is to conduct electric current by maintaining physical contact with an armature. Over time brushes will wear away eventually requiring replacement. Symptoms of worn brushes include erratic or intermittent operation, decreased power, or a complete inability to activate the sander. This is a genuine OEM supplied replacement part that is designed for use with Ridgid angle grinders. One durable carbon brush with a lead wire and a spring are included per order. It is advised to replace both brushes at the same time.

I had a rear bearing failure and took the unit apart. One brush was cracked so after re-assembling the unit I installed the new brushes. Works great
