the replacement brushes for my DeWalt orbital sander were very easy to replace. The only downside was fact that the plastic package indicated that the brushes were for a Porter-Cable sander. ... Read mored I removed carbon brushes from seat with needle-nose pliers. The brushes are held in place with wind-up springs and require a small screwdriver to relieve the tension on the brush for removal, a delicate touch is required.
3. Installation is reverse of removal.
Removed three screws and the top (cap) of the sander. Removed the old brushes by holding back the spring clips that hold the brushes in place. Installed the new brushes. Connected the wires from the brushes in the same location as the previous brush wires. Reinstalled the top of the sander. Plugged it in, and it works just fine.

sander quit working after changing sanding disc. Very sudden
1. Read book on possible problems. Dewalt Sander Book said possibly brushes or switch.
2. Ordered both items.
3. Removed screws holding sander top in place. Placed in dish so I could find them.
4. Used air hose and alcohol swab to clean dust and debris from brush holders and switch connectors.

Replaced brushes in a Dewalt 6\" random orbit sander
It\'s fairly straightforward- after I took the back housing off and blew sawdust out so you can see what you are doing, I used needle nose pliers to pull the old brushes out and to re-seat the new ones. Actually the hardest part is getting everything back in the correct orientation to put the tool back together.
1. Opened bottom of grinder (torx screws)
2. Removed top of grinder
3. Lifted motor out of grinder
4. Replaced brushes
5. Replaced motor
6. Closed bottom of grinder

Removed the top cover after unplugging. Noticed brushes were very short so decided to replace to see if this is the issue. Dust cover was compromised so that was a no brainer.
New brushes were very long, installed easily and it all went back together and ran perfectly.
