This pad tip, also known as a detail sanding pad or backing pad, is found on the tip of the platen in your sander and covering the carrier. Its purpose is to provide a cushioning effect and ensure smooth and even sanding by distributing pressure evenly and reducing vibration. If the pad tip becomes worn, torn, or damaged, it may result in uneven sanding, decreased performance, or difficulties in attaching the sanding abrasive. Signs of a deteriorating pad tip include a loss of grip or visible wear. To replace the pad tip, you will need to remove its mounting screw and peel it off the platen. Please bear in mind that this OEM replacement part is sold separately from the carrier.

The part was just as I expected, however there were no instructions on how to remove the old part and install the new one. I'm not sure I did it correctly, but it does seem to be working well. I have tried to obtain a user manual from Black & Decker, but have not been able to get one.
