Questions & Answers

The coffee is coming out very watered down.
Frank for model number esam 3500
Hi Frank, Thank you for your question. If your coffee is watered down, there are 4 reasons for this. 1. You may not be using enough coffee. For every 6 ounces of water, use 2 Tbsp of coffee. 2. You may not be brewing the coffee long enough. Like tea, if the coffee is not allowed to steep for the proper length of time, you will have weak tasting coffee. For information on brewing time, you will need to consult the owner's manual for the coffee maker. 3. Make sure the water is heated correctly, so the coffee is not watered down. The ideal coffee brewing water temperature is around 195-205 degrees or about ~30 seconds off of the boil. 4. If your coffee maker is producing weak coffee, the coffee grinds you are using may be the wrong size. If the coffee grinds are too coarse of a coffee grind, then you will end up with weak tasting coffee. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
I changed the large O rings. Coffee was working Ok but now noticed the water flow a lot faster and the coffee taste is not as strong. What could be wrong?
Frank for model number EAM3500
Hi Frank, Thank you for your question. If you are finding that the coffee maker is overflowing, you may have to adjust the the nozzle or spout or you may either have a clogged filter or the coffee grinds are not the correct size. Adjust the nozzle or spout to see if this helps, if not thoroughly clean the coffee maker. Remove all of the coffee grinds, water and any left over coffee and then pour 3 cups of vinegar and 6 cups of cold water into the coffee maker and turn the brewing cycle on. After the first cycle, run the brewing process 2 more times with just cold water until the smell of vinegar is gone. Also clean the brew basket of any debris. If you have done all this and the water is still running too fast, then the filter will likely need to be replaced. Also make sure the size of the coffee grinds are correct for the method of brewing you are using. If it is still over flowing reduce the amount of cups you are brewing and this may correct the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Milk was not frothing when steam nozzle was used
When using steam nozzle, steam appeared to be coming out of nozzle but milk was not frothing. Further investigation revealed that steam appeared to be leaking from top of removable nozzle. Looked at parts diagram on replacementparts website and realized that o'ring was missing (unsure of how it became dislodged and where it was). No tools needed to connect new o'ring and steam is working correctly.

Delonghi Magnifica leaked.
Could find nothing wrong but it still leaked after replacing o-rings. Finally determined that calcification on the condensate drain was allowing water to flow up the side then back down to the counter top. I cleaned it w vinegar, a toothbrush and dental floss. Not a drop on the counter now.

My milk frother wasn't working, just sputtering
The milk frother was cracked so it wasn't making a tight seal. Also, the gasket had come off but I didn't know that. So I replaced with the new nozzle, then it still didn't work. When I looked down on the floor, my cat was playing with a little rubber ring. The gasket! I put it on (after washing it) and works great!

Question: O-Ring

1586178

Never saw an answer to these questions: Is this a high temp O-Ring? Does it replace the orange one that is at the top of the generator under the white tube?
Thank you for your question!

This o-ring is high temp. As far as replacing the orange o-ring you're talking about you can cross reference with this diagram here:http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delonghi-esam5400-coffee-maker-parts-c-122345_122351_122772.html

The figure number for this o-ring on the above listed diagram is 44.

Good luck!

-Halifax
FWIW, the o-ring that fits under the white tube on top of the generator is http://www.ereplacementparts.com/oring-p-1071061.html. The one I replaced is orange, the new one is black.
Question: O-ring

1221430

Is this o-ring the one that goes over the tubing for the generator and is it high temp, since the one I took out was orange in color?
