Bosch 11247 Rotary Hammer would not hammer.

    Tool Type

    Rotary Hammer

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, snap ring pliers, star drive socket attachment

Removed top frame piece and extracted all old oil. Removed front circle lock rings holding the nose of the hammer drill on, then removed large snap ring and removed cylinder and all gears and seals. Please note: if you're going to attempt this make damn sure you TAKE PICTURES!!! of each step of the process because you will never remember the sequence of reassembly or the position (front/rear) of the gears, shifter, and shims. Do NOT rely on any of the parts breakdown pictures available on the internet, they are fascicle and incomplete. Once I replaced all seals and put in new oil (I used refrigerant oil instead of the Bosch brand) and reassembled the drill, it worked like brand new. Parts were exactly as ordered and a perfect fit, and shipping was quick. Thank you for the great service.

    Hammer drill would not Hammer

    Joel - January 10, 2023
    Tool Type

    Rotary Hammer

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Snap ring removal, star bit, vice

Disassemble and clean debris from damaged O rings.
Remove old fluid and clean with alcohol and pressurized air.
Replace o rings on piston and slide driver.
Reassemble and Replace the oil retention ring and refill the gear box with recommended fluid and quantity supplied with the new access cover seal.
Twisting the plastic piston shaft with the piston cam in the 9 or 3 o'clock position allows you to remove and replace the piston without any disassembly of the piston.
The sliding driver in front of the piston was jammed because the o ring was deteriorated. Removal required pounding the tube at an angle against a solid piece of wood so as not to damage the tube.
Compressing the main spring to reinstall the master snap ring required a piece of round tube in the correct inside and outside diameter to fit over the bit receiver and allow the snap ring in compress enough to be re-seated in the casting. A bit tricky, but this impoverished tool made it happen.
    Tool works great again
