I am replacing the old string head assembly from 2019 with a 309562008. How do I get the old assembly off? Do I need a new gear head and string head adapter?

Hello Bill, Thank you for the question. No, the string head assembly is easily removed from the unit by twisting the retainer clockwise. This is a reversed threaded retainer. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair.
